What does it take to build a championship team?
This is the question every coach, as well as entrepreneur must answer.
After making the decision to create an investment company, I started this journey myself. Part of it was to identify and recruit the best business partners on this planet. It was important to mix pure business growth experience, with a builder’s personality, and a champions attitude. My thought on attitude comes from my experience as a leader working with many different teams. I do know that some skills can be learned, but this I think these particular set of values and beliefs reflect their motivation. Winning is the attitude that comes not only from experience, but also from seizing opportunities and quickly adopting to constantly changing market conditions, a willingness to learn and teach as well as a positive attitude, believing in the bigger picture and the value of what we are creating.
My search started by looking for a global healthcare market expert with amazing communication skills. Experienced and successfully building businesses, with cooperation with Private Equities, startups, and big companies/corporations and a depth of experience in M&A. I was paying attention to many criteria that I set for each person. The first business partner that met and outranked everyone on my long lists of expectations was Richard, who shared my passion for healthcare and technology. He was and continues to be excited about what we are building. The next person who checked all my criteria boxes was Mark, with his outstanding experience building technology companies, increasing stakeholder value by combining and integrating divergent companies into larger global enterprise. He brings an excited exuberance about what we are building to every interaction. Both people are builders who bring a champions attitude.
To me, a diversified and international team of builders and champions is key, because this is the animating force in building a new global business.
